
Holy Communion Lutheran Church was developed in 1959 as a congregation of the UCLA on the west side of Spartanburg, also known as the “Hub City.” The Rev. Luther Jeffcoat was sent as mission developer.
Through its history, the congregation has been served by three additional pastors, two of whom had tenures of twenty-five and eighteen years respectively. The Rev. Alan Kinsey came to Holy Communion in 2016. A second career pastor, Rev. Kinsey worked as a professional engineer before entering the Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary in Columbia SC. He has served congregations in Pennsylvania, and three here in South Carolina.

We partner with other churches, nonprofit groups, and volunteers to “Tell Others They Are Loved” through this local ministry which provides food and financial assistance in Spartanburg County. We are one of the churches that collects peanut butter for Total Ministry’s food pantry.
is a non-profit organization that rehabilitates the houses of elderly, disabled, and otherwise disadvantaged homeowners to provide for their continued safety and independence. Occasionally, we join in their mission of repairing homes, revitalizing communities, and rebuilding lives.
